Curious how mvelopes compares to financier (other than the higher price).

Bug Reports / Re: Overbudget in April?

A split category transaction with $10 not assigned was the culprit.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction. All is well now!

No, that's the weird part.

Every category in March is zero (I spent all that I budgeted) execpt for 2 categories. One has $1.79 left and another has $28.21 left. So I don't know where the -$10 is coming from.

Bug Reports / Overbudget in April?
« on: March 26, 2018, 12:57:49 PM »
I don't think this is a bug but I am not sure what is going on:

1) Started a new budget/file in February, so I only have 2 months worth of transactions.

2) I have 0 available to budget in both February and March, but April shows a $10 overbudgeted - that I overspent by $10 in March.

3) I double-checked that all transactions have a category.

I would want it to keep it's position.

I guess I am looking for the option to not have any auto sorting other than the main column headings (like sorting by date). It's probably overkill (and not needed by most, I'm guessing), to have a way to sort first by date, then by amount, etc. For me, just sort by the column and don't do any other auto sorting.

Thanks for considering this as an option.

Forgive me if this is not the right place to add this...
Currently, the transaction list, after sorting by date, auto sorts by the amount. So, after sorting by date, it orders the list smallest to largest amount.

But I would really prefer the option to have it sort by date and then *not* sort by amount after that. It would be nice to see my transactions in the order I entered them in.

Any chance it is easy to add an option to turn off that 2nd ordering?

Font size is a little small for me, but not unusable. Iím just thankful to have the mobile app to use.

iPhone 7; iOS 11.2.1; safari

Hey @asromzek, love everything youíre doing with the mobile app.

Wondering how hard it is to implement settings to custom adjust the font size. Iím sure it is a formatting nightmare, but I would like the option if itís possible.

I too was thinking about going to nYNAB as Financier is unusable for me without mobile. But coming back here after several months away and I'm blown away by the progress Asromzek has made--really great!

Maybe this has already been answered, but are you thinking you will keep hosting the mobile on your personal site going forward? Just curious.

Over the years (trying) to use this method of budgeting (YNAB and now Financier), I have struggled with correctly managing the budget screen. Since we are regularly using our $500 overdraft allowance each month to pay the bills, my budget screen shows overages. The problem is, I can't figure out how to make this relate to the actual numbers in my bank account.

If I use $300 of checking reserve (overdraft) this month and allocate those amounts, it will show me over-budgeted by $300. Now, when the bank transfers that amount into my account, I should then be at $0 for a balance. Maybe I'm doing this wrong, but I have a category called "overdraft" in which I record any money deposited or expensed from overdraft (when it's paid back).

In the software, my account ledger will show $0 and my budget should show -$300, right? This will tell me how much I've dipped into the $500 reserve that I get. The problem though, is the number on the budget screen never correctly relates to how much reserve I have used.

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the software but how I enter the transactions...and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Any insights?

As someone who pastors a small rural church without a staff and also works occasional side projects for extra income, I can relate to Alex being stretched thin with all of the "hats" he is wearing. Of course, since many of us are paying customers, there is an expectation on our part to see some progress or at least to get a status report, which only adds to the pressure.

Maybe it would be good for Alex to consider bringing on a partner that, at the very least, can be active here on the forums with answering questions and providing some (any) kind of feedback. This would allow Alex to keep to his (busy) schedule and to help alleviate any concerns some have and to dispel fears that it their needed feature won't get done.

At the first of the year, I had intended to go with Financier completely (and even paid for a subscription), but with the lack of a way to do mobile (it's truly unusable on my phone), I have had to go back to YNAB4. I check the forums every day to check on the progress but, as of late, there's very little being discussed.

I am sure most would agree that we really want to see this project succeed and so I think, in my opinion, having another person to keep us up to date is something that needs to be considered so that we all continue to stay on board.

I agree with everything said here.

I'm totally in once the mobile app is working. Plus, I have 4 college kids I'll encourage to sign up with Financier too.

Feature Requests / Re: Must have features before switching?

I definitely need Financier to be useable on a mobile device.

For me, everything else on the list is gravy! Scheduled transactions and imports are nice but I can enter them manually if I have to. But right now, I cannot use Financier on a mobile device at all (for me, the transaction screen is too narrow and there is no way to see what you are doing). And mobile is the only way I'll really use the program along with my wife.

Any chance we can encourage Alex to take a vacation from his real job to get this done?!

Appreciate all you're doing!

I didn't clear anything. Just opened it up and logged in.

Thought I would try turning Financier into a "desktop" app (for Mac) using and it seems to work well. The only big difference I'm noticing is that the fonts are a little on the light side.

But other than that, I can have a dedicated app icon right on my dock. Really neat.
