What do you guys think about making the background of the month overview match the budget state?

Just an idea. :)
Slightly lighter bg option:

Not sure if it would interest me too much as I my eyes are drawn to the big red letters rather than a red bg (same goes for the green letters vs green background)
Before reading the thread, I looked at the pictures and compared the 2 and I thought you were changing the look of the 'current month'.
I found it easier to see the current month as a green bg, not the little red corner (I never seem to notice that unless I'm looking for it).
tl;dr
Having a coloured bg for budget state doesn't interest me as I focus on the coloured numbers... but
If you had all the months as grey and the current month as green bg, it would probably be visually pleasing
Are you referring to the greenish tint in the November 2016 header section of the third picture? That looks kind of ugly to me.
I actually prefer the first Green if there were to be a colour. I didn't like the red so much.
I vote for only the numbers being red or green, not the background.
Need any opinions on the mobile app design? :)
thx for the feedback guys, I'll just keep it the way it was.
I think YNAB4 handles the colored ATB number perfectly.
- All past month are gray, regardless of value.
- The current month is red, green, or white depending on its current state.
- The next month is white for positive and zero values, and only goes red if negative.
- All future months after the following month are white regardless of value.
The colors do a really good job of drawing your eyes to the areas that need attention. You only see green when you're dealing with the current month. Red either indicates that you did something wrong this month, or you're affecting next month. Anything in the past, or two or months out, aren't as critical.
Edit: I forgot to add that I mentioned this a while back, but didn't see a trello card. I'm also attaching a screenshot as an example of what it might look like in Financier.
And with a negative number the following month.

Quick question. Should the "Overspent in Dec." number in the January Budget also be red if you decide not to WAM? It would be a negative number.

I like this idea. It would bring more attention to unaddressed overspending.
WAM?
WAM = Wack A Mole = Steal from another category

Hahaha. Teaching the creator of the software about acronyms used with his software. Now that's funny!

Nope... please keep doing what you're doing. It seems to be working well.
