Other / Re: Donate A Couple Bucks?

That's fine if it works for you. Unfortunately, perhaps fortunately, I take my finances seriously and will not trust my records to what is a one man band with no real plan other that to keep things as they are. No business or product ever succeeded by being dormant and I am not tying myself into something that in a lot of ways is archaic (ref not having scheduled transactions or a mobile app). It is a personal thing of course and if you are happy with that then that is also great.

I am not even prepared to help keep the lights on - not on what is to me an incomplete product. I need mobile and I need scheduled. As it stands YNAB (new) is the better bet even allowing for Jesse and the past. Agreed, it is not YNAB 4 but it does have scheduled and mobile and is being developed.

How will these couple of bucks actually help? The dev has already said he does not want help, that Financier is basically where he wants it to be and further enhancement should be seen as a bonus rather than an expectation. I might well have been willing to contribute in the past but no so keen now. Anyway should not the dev be making this request?

Just some movement would be nice, Alex :-)

I guess the lack of response says it all. From my perspective there is no future in this app as it really no more than a one man hobby. That is not something I can live with given my finances are involved so I have called it a day and deleted my budget. This is a great shame as Financier has/had great potential. Unfortunately the unwillingness to share/open up the development does not bode well for the future and will probably end up strangling the project.

We all have differing expectations and I wish you all well. For me, it is very important that I keep my finances in order via a robustly supported piece of software rather than, using Alex's words, a pet project. Periods of inactivity followed by sprints does not work for me even if the quality of the coding is good. I would never go back to YNAB but there are others.

I'll check back in a few months but to be honest it is the philosophy/development model that does not sit comfortably in my world. Have fun guys and stay safe :-)

Likewise (well similar) Mike. And Alex you have Scheduled Transactions as under development but appear to be saying that this functionality (along with other) might not make it to to release any time soon or at all. Sorry, but that really does render the software unsafe for my consumption. I need reliability in terms of performance, development and bug fixes. You really should get some help or open source the code imho.

Fortunately I did not subscribe or invest heavily in the learning curve so I just stop here. Shame though - it is a great but under-resourced idea.

You are taking on a lot Alex and it must be difficult at times. It is this type of conflict between life and the project that worries me and certainly your very open and honest response re Scheduled Transactions does nothing to give me comfort. I really cannot see me buying into software, and software that I have to rely on, when there are no guarantees that there will be devs available to take it forward/deal with bugs. IMO you really do need to take on help and that is said with the greatest respect to you and your efforts thus far.

No offence taken, Paul :-)

I reckon my scheduled transactions are around the 35 to 40 mark. Personally I have no intention of inputting them manually. I was on YNAB and am currently using Goodbudget as an alternative - I will never go back to YNAB. GB is pretty good but I do miss the ability to budget for next month. However if that is the cost of automatic scheduling then so be it. That is why I am keen to know how the development is going and why I do (perhaps unnecessarily) worry about single developer software.

Good for you and of course you are entitled to your views. I have far too many scheduled transactions to even consider a manual approach. I get very jittery when the sole developer is absent from the website for whatever reason.

Have asked the same question under the Development Expansion thread. No response there either :-(

Alex must be busy.

Hi Alex, don't mean to be pushy but how is the scheduled transaction development going? I really want to start using Financier but without scheduled I have no chance :-(

Thanks
Colin

Yes Alex does a great job but I must admit it is the "one man show" thing that worries me. Is there absolutely no back-up should our worthy dev become unable to work on the software (long or short term)?
