« on: February 23, 2018, 11:23:57 AM »
The main Financier app should work completely offline if the central auth/sync server or your internet connection is down. Once connectivity is restored, any offline changes that are made should automatically be pushed. @Alex did a great job building a solid platform, and the app has performed well through a variety of connection issues that I've witnessed over the last year and a half.

Unfortunately, phones and their browsers are a little more unpredictable with the mobile web app. I attempted to recreate the offline capability of the main app, but each browser has its own set of quirks, and I ended up removing the offline capability for a specific reason that I can't recall. My plan was revisit this once the mobile app was a little fully featured, and maybe now is the right time to put that back toward the top of the list. For now, using the mobile app requires a constant WiFi or data connection.

Thanks!  My personal opinion would be that duplicating the offline functionality of the main app should be fairly high on the priority for mobile.  In order for Financier to truly feel like an application, both on desktop and mobile it needs to have the same kind of functionality that apps have as opposed to web pages.

Just my two cents!  ;)

This is a question related to a post I saw on the Facebook YNAB fans page.  YNAB seemed to have problems loading for someone, and they are figuring out if it is their internet or the actual YNAB service.

My question is, theoretically, Financier should never show me it can't connect, correct?  If my internet is out it will use the cached version perpetually, as long as I don't clear my cache, and if the Financier servers are down same thing.  If this is all true does it apply for the mobile version as well?

The mobile portion is important because i do periodically want to enter transactions or work on my budget when my device is in airplane mode.

Thanks!

May I suggest for the purposes of this documentation the unmodified webapp is used for screenshots?

Yeah you are right, I'll go back in later today and redo the screenshots using the regular version.

I love it! My only feedback would be people will be wondering where the "blue" setting is. ;)

That is actually a good point!  I will add a little blurb with links to the Stylish themes!  :P

Off-topic / Where did Financier get it's name?
« on: February 21, 2018, 07:31:41 PM »
And what does it mean?

Just curious, it doesn't seem to be a name that rolls off the tongue like Y-nab, so just curious how it came about!

Welcome aboard!

Thanks!

Good to have you and thank you for jumping in so quickly!

Glad to be of service!  Love what Financier is doing so far, and want to do everything I can to help it succeed!

Welcome aboard "Captain"...... We all look forward to your creative wisdom  :) :)

Lol, well thanks, and I will contribute what I can!  I'm not too sure I would call it creative wisdom however...Creative...juices maybe?! :-P  If nothing else I can be a cheerleader for Financier!

PS - Hmm...are we able to get custom monikers on the forums?  I kind of like the idea of being colloquially known around these parts as Captain...Lol  ;D :parrot:

Wecome, and reading that makes makes me wish I had proceeded past the first 3 flight lessons.

Thanks!  It's never too late to at least get your private pilots license!  I instructed for 3 years while I was building time towards the airlines.  I taught everyone from teenagers who were 14 (even though they couldn't solo until 16 or get their license until 17!) to very rich professionals to 70 year old retirees!

If you are at all curious at any point feel free to reach out.  I'd be glad to discuss further!  8)

I have just paid off all my Credit Cards and intend to use CC's as a "PIF" to take advantage of the "Cash Rewards"... I am really looking forward to your "Wiki" on doing this .....

Ok, I have added the following!

1   Intro
2   Scenarios
2.1   Making a Credit Card Payment
2.2   Charging to a Credit Card
2.3   Using a Credit Card and Paying in Full Monthly
2.4   Dealing with Credit Card Interest and Fees

https://docs.financier.io/index.php/Using_Credit_Cards

The only thing I need to add yet are a couple of screenshots dealing with Interest and Fees.  If anyone has any feedback on what they like or what needs to be made clearer please feel free to comment over there in the discussion section, or here on the forums!

@Alex, Setting "margin-left" from "-1px" to "0px" for ".month-select" seems to fix it on Chrome. Are there issues on other browsers?

Nevermind, a scroll bar pops up under the heading, and I just found the comment in the source code: "// Flexbox subpixel rendering hack".

This seemed to fix it for me in Chrome using that code added to Stylish.  I am also not seeing any scroll bars under the heading.

Hello everyone, my name is Wendell and I am a YNAB4 convert.  I just found Financier in the last couple of days and I think I'm all in!  I have been using YNAB4 for several years on and off, and it has really helped my wife and I get on track with our spending and now hopefully working on getting debt free.

I love what Financier is doing, and hope to be able to help out wherever possible to keep this project improving!  I have VERY limited programming skills, but I feel I'm a fairly smart guy (my wife may disagree!) so I'm hoping to be able to help out in some small way.

I am a Captain at Horizon Air, a wholly owned regional subsidiary of Alaska Airlines.  I can talk for hours about airplanes, so beware! ;-)  I plan on being around here pretty often as I get more involved and look forward to getting to know the community more as it hopefully grows!

Thanks everyone,
Wendell

I corrected the month layout with this...

Code: [Select]
.month-overview__month-overview, .month-overview__cell-head {
    margin-left: -1px;
}

...but the budget header category is still 1 or 2 pixels out

Thank you!  This was driving me crazy as well!
